Lauren Drain was a member of the homophobic Church and an active picketer for seven years. But then when she questioned some of their beliefs, she was cast out and cut off from her family.
Scores of celebrities have joined The NOH8 cause, which has now become a national LGBT rights movement. Even Cindy McCain has shot a portrait.
Drain became a member of the Church at the age of 15 when her father moved the family to Kansas to live in their compound. She's now selling a memoir of the story (written with Lisa Pulitzer): Banished: Surviving My Years in the Westboro Baptist Church.
